Scout Light

Halcyon Scout LightsSeveral Halcyon products evolved out of necessity: the performance of available manufactured gear was not acceptable under rigorous mission critical situations. The Scout is just such a product. The Scout is machined out of a solid rod of delrin for strength and fitted with a proper voltage bulb to reduce the risk of failure. The Mini-Scout’s 2 cell design is perfect for smaller divers who prefer not to have a full length Scout on their harness. Scout lights provide reliable performance for divers of every calibre.

Reserve or back-up lights are key components of the DIR gear configuration. These lights must be reliable, streamlined and conveniently stowed along the MC's harness straps. Following a primary light failure in an overhead environment, the diver must switch to the reserve light and initiate an exit. The time spent using the reserve light should not be much greater than half of the diver’s bottom time; however, a reserve light should be able to provide more time in the event of a delayed exit. Reserve lights that are capable of burning for the length of a diver’s total bottom time are sufficient.

  • Nearly all widely available reserve lights overdrive the bulb to create a brighter beam. While overdriving the bulb is effective for short term use, it increases the stress on the filament, resulting in a greater frequency of bulb failure. Scout Lights are designed to under-drive the bulb, helping to extend bulb life for critical applications.

  • All Scout Lights have a machined attachment point at the rear of the light and is free from all the plastic clips and other assorted snags typically present on mass manufactured lights.

Halcyon LED Scout & Mini-Scout Lights

LED vs Xenon Scout
When Halcyon decided to develop its LED Scout, we knew that it wasn’t enough to rush a product to market just to be among the first. Although some characteristics of LED lighting are immediately attractive, such as long burn times, extended service life, and a bright white color temperature, we had never been impressed with the LED’s ability to provide the focused beam that we want out of a back-up light. Early attempts at LED backup lights were excellent at close range as surface signaling lights, but at a distance or when signaling a buddy during the dive, the exist
ing LED technologies fell well short of our standards.

Our search for a focused LED has paid off: the new LED Scouts provide the light output to equal or surpass the traditional Scout with a tightly-focused beam. You'll find the same Scout reliability, but with a bright white beam that has all of the benefits you want from an LED bulb. Halcyon's unique LED assembly can be driven by both 2-cell and 3-cell battery configurations. The LED Mini-Scout provides an astounding 7 hour burn time; the 3-cell Scout provides approximately 30% brighter output, with a burn time of 5 hours.

Halcyon LED Replacement Assembly LED bulbs are revolutionary in their ability to withstand shock and emit a strong light source with minimal power drain (about five times the time of a halogen bulb). They have a remarkable lifetime, lasting more th
an ten years while burning continuously. However, most LED lights are ineffective at projecting the light over a distance sufficient to make them useful while diving. Halcyon’s high power LED bulb provides as much light as 10 common LEDs. The patent-pending design directs the light so that it can be projected by the reflector in a tightly focused beam. The Halcyon LED replacement module will fit all existing Scout lights as well as the newest 2 cell Mini-Scout.
